Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) announced this week it had awarded $3.8 million to 38 companies in the cleantech space including launch company SpaceRyde.
SDTC says it has partnered with 60 accelerators across Canada including Brampton, Ontario based Research Innovation Commercialization which supports SpaceRyde.
SpaceRyde was awarded $100,000 and according to the SDTC press release “is building the most affordable and sustainable way to launch satellites to space.”
SpaceQ contacted the company about the award and Saharnaz Safari, COO and founder, told us that “this funding supports continuation of the development of SpaceRyde’s balloon/rocket launch vehicle, and preparation for our upcoming flight in 2022. This fund showcases SpaceRyde’s novel launch technology as the only sustainable way to launch satellites to space. The technology developed with the help of this fund brings Canada to the forefront of space launch as the first country that is launching to space while protecting the environment.”
SpaceRyde is one of a handful of Canadian companies looking to develop an orbital launch vehicle. We recently covered the successful test of the engine for their hybrid balloon launch system.
Two other companies who are taking different approaches include Reaction Dynamics and C6 Launch Systems.
